It was not pleasant to be inside the classroom specially after the break due to the rising day time temperature. The irregular power cuts are driving the children crazy. The tired looking faces light up when they come to know they are going to get a chance to spend time out of class. Being a teacher handling Health and Physical Education for the upper grades I share part of the teaching component with my co-worker who is the Physical Training Instructor. Hence it’s important to involve children in outdoor activities..
The grade eight students were waiting to jump out of the class promising they would complete the work in their writing copies at home..Well I decided to practice ball pass techniques of netball..The children left the class in single file and reached the play ground..The sunrays were harsh on us…The blue sky did not have a single fragment of cloud to hide the sun at least every now and then.
The children practised different ball pass techniques of netball being in a circle under my instructions.. ie..shoulder pass, overhead pass, chest pass, bounce pass, underarm pass, side pass etc.
Later they were learning to pass the netball while running..What a game it was! I myself could have joined them..Unfortunately, I wasn’t attired in my PT kit..the sari, heels, jewellery in place obstructed my desire..
After about 50 minutes the children needed a break to empty their bottles of water..They all gathered under the rose apple tree nearby..The faces were sun burnt and sweat was pouring along the cheeks..
Though exhausted they were happy..I was pleased too..For a teacher that’s what really matters after all..
